What would you do with the gateways?

Ooooh this should be fun.... (So I tried to save it and it's apparently "too long," so I've broken it up into replies to this comment, don't forget to keep reading!)

I suppose I'll begin with Future World. First off, we need to put something in the Wonders of Life Pavilion. I've debated a few ideas. There was the Transportation Pavilion to replace the one Test Track replaced, but updated for the 21st century. It could talk about maglev trains and other form of public transportation to make our cities smaller and our commutes greener, electric cars, or bringing back the super sonic commercial airliner. I also considered the Exploration Pavilion, dedicated to mankind's exploration of the universe. It would start off with those who braved the seas to first map out the globe, and perhaps those that went west to fulfill the Manifest Destiny, and then there could be things for the explorers that first reached the top of Everest or the south pole, or those who explored the ocean, etc etc etc, and it would culminate in a huge celebration of space exploration, and would focus on the future in that regard. I actually really like this idea, and think it would make a fantastic pavilion, but it does focus heavily on the past, which is something I'd like to avoid in Future World (an idea I will discuss later relies on the past, so having two past-centric things is the real issue here). The idea I finally settled on to replace the Wonders of Life Pavilion is the Computing and Robotics Pavilion. This is a really natural choice because computers have become an integral part of society, and computing and robotics technology will be what really drives the future in the years to come. This pavilion will feature many hands on things and exhibits/demos. There is software now that can compose music based on some inputs for the mood and style you'd like, so something like that where you choose some things and receive a song written by a computer would be sick. I imagine there'd be a lot of AI interaction here, with the ultimate experience being a station with natural language processing that would allow users to ask a question, and then run that question through a WolframAlpha type system to get and answer, and then use state of the art speech software to reply. It would be very rudimentary and isn't passing the Turing test any time soon, but for many people it would feel incredibly close to speaking to a person, which would be mind blowing. So there are demos like that but there are more that computers can do. Maybe show off some of the software Disney uses for animation. You can look up their research videos on YouTube, they're incredible. Just a "Rapunzel's Hair" and "Frozen's Snow" station would be enough, really, but then you have Pixar which has pioneered in underwater animation from Finding Nemo and, of all things, knit fabrics in Inside Out. All sorts of cool cutting edge things from computers. Then on the robotics side we have Asimo, the robot on the ISS, and things like robots that can sword fight or play ping pong. Could you imagine getting beat at ping pong by a welding robot?? Once again hands on experiences and demos dominate. Since the pavilion is currently mostly theater, and so that the whole pavilion isn't just open floor space, there would probably have to be at least one show in the pavilion. This is the perfect opportunity to show off what Disney theme parks are most famous for, audio-animatronics. I'm envisioning a show similar to the one in the American Adventure, with (very modern) robotic guides taking us through all robotics has to offer, with frequent guest appearances from other animated figures or robots doing demos on stage. It would be spectacular. Innoventions East I like, with the Sum of All Thrills and the VISION House being the embodiment of what I think Future World should be, creating magic with technology that will lead us into the future. I also think that the nanoscale exhibit and the natural disasters display are educational and good. I hate Innoventions West. However, they are currently doing some updating (or so I've been told), so I won't say anything about that and I'll see where it goes. I wouldn't mind if West just had a ton of sponsors showing off their products. That would actually be ideal. Let's see what you've got world, sell me on it, show me it's cool. If I think it's cool there's a good chance park visitors will as well. If this was sponsored by Popular Science magazine, that'd be fantastic. A ton of sponsors also means a lot of updates so the products on display are always the newest and greatest things. Ellen's Energy Adventure. Oh man. This thing. I love Ellen and Bill in the movie, they're really great. And the premise of the ride is fantastic. But....the ride is bad. Like, really bad. For a ride that's supposed to teach guests about the future of energy in a fun and exciting way, the majority of the ride is spent learning what audio-animatronic dinosaurs from the 1980's look like. And when I've brought this up to people in real life, they tell me that dinosaurs are more appealing to kids than learning about energy. But I disagree! Bill Nye the Science Guy made science fun for all kids when I was younger, and still is huge as a face for the scientific community. He's even mentioned in his most recent AMA that this show is outdated. I believe that he could redo it and make it both informative and legitimately entertaining. Because contrary to popular belief, seven minutes of fake dinos with very little narration or anything else isn't. Ellen is also still an active celebrity and is clearly working with Disney still as evidenced by Finding Dory. I think the two of them would be available to shoot an updated show, which would be nice because they are fantastic together. The new show would be able to keep the same track and cars, which is good for saving money (yes I know unlimited funds but I have to at least try to seem realistic) and would just replace everything the cars see (heh heh, "just"). It would be a spectacle of sustainable energy yet to come. Don't forget, this is Future World and I want to use my one glimpse into the past for another thing so we must look forwards. We can't dwell on the solar panels and wind turbines of the present day, we must look into what the future can bring. Things like the guys that created the Solar Freakin' Raodways video. That is making magic out of the tech we have today. There's currently a plane circumnavigating the globe powered purely by solar. Things that are fanciful yet within reach, because the fact that we can do these things make them that much more exciting. So Ellen's Energy Adventure is redone as Ellen's Sustainable Energy Adventure featuring Bill Nye the Science Guy. A mouthful, I know. (Keep reading the good stuff starts below!)
