Whats UWindsor like?

I would recommend checking out the subreddit /r/UniversityofWindsor only because it is slightly more active than this one (but not much)

I'm a second year student at the U, and while I can not speak for the engineering program, I would say that the engineering facilities are very nice, and of course profs can vary although most I have had have been helpful and approachable.

As for Residences, I stayed in Macdonald Hall (Mac) last year and loved it, although I have been told it's gotten more strict this year. Really it depends on what you like. Laurier and Mac are very similar (although Laurier has single gender floors), Mac used to be known as the party res but they really cracked down on underage drinking this year so I don't think that's as much the case. Cartier has a more open concept layout with two rooms sharing one bathroom (still two to a room though), is smaller than Mac and Laurier, and has a lot of varsity athletes although other students as well. Alumni has both first year students as well as upper year students, it has more single rooms, is slightly further from main campus (but not so much for engineering), and generally has rooms with two separate bedrooms and a bathroom. It's also more expenseve. Clark and Electa I believe are just for upper year students, so you don't want to be there. It depends what you want, my vote would personally go for either Mac or Cartier (I don't like single gender floors), but if you are quiet and reserved you may prefer Alumni.

I unfortunately have not been involved with intermurials (although I almost got a volleyball team together this year), I am a varsity athlete and so am at the Saint Denis Centre an awful lot. We do have pretty good facilities and at some point the Saint Denis centre will be getting redone. I know we do have a fair amount of intermurial teams, and it is easy to sign up - just go to the saint dennis centre website and follow the links. You can register a whole team or be a member on an existing one. Some inturmurials include basketball, volleyball, ball hockey, regular hockey, flag football, soccer, innertube waterpolo, handball and ultimate. You can also choose the level you want your team to compete at (rec or competitive levels). Everyone I've known who's done inturermurials has had a good experience. There are also a variety of workout classes offered and other events. For the sports scene in general we have a lot of really good varsity teams, although our school spirit could definitely be better. But on the plus side all home games are free for students.

As for going to Detroit, it's totally doable, just take the tunnel bus from the bus station downtown (leaves every half hour and is $9 round trip) and it will drop you downtown Detroit, with the option to take you straight to he Joe Louis Arena. Lot's of people do this. As for any other advice, I will warn you the food quality on campus is not too great, but we do have a relatively nice campus with lots of renovations still under way. I highly suggest residence for first year, but in subsequent years, housing off campus is close and cheap. The night life in Windsor is good (lots of students), and the school is definitely not overwhelming in size. It unfortunately is a bit of a commuter school, with many students communing in from elsewhere in the city and the surrounding area, but if you are in residence you will create a network of friends who are also from out of town so this shouldn't affect you too much.

In general your university experience will be what you make it, it's like that at any school. The University of Windsor is a good school and there is no reason you won't have a blast. Get involved, go to the library, and have fun! And feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
