Honestly I think you’re misinterpreting a lot for how they decided to write him. The innocentness isn’t for the audience, its for Hank, because the joke during all of this is that its so blatantly inappropriate but Hank is going along with all of it thinking its normal super hero stuff. The audience is more obviously clued into comments like the citizens that say “just dont let him near my kid” after praising sunshine. There are too many other parts for the episode that DONT have innocent alternatives, its just up to the audience to piece that together without them screaming CAPTAIN SUNSHINE REALLY LIKES LITTLE BOYS. They use subtlety really well but that doesn’t mean what they’re being subtle about is up for interpretation, it all has to do with context which is extremely telling in that episode.

Well the guy I replied to that this whole convo stemmed from seemed to have the pedo stuff go right over his head if he thought Sunshine was just being weird with Hank.
