The Senate meeting is finally over or at least that's what human Ambassador Jenkins thought, then the speaker of the Senate gave word to the Balkian ambassador.
"Thank you for letting me speak. In the name of the Balkian government I would like to claim right of uplift patronage over the humans. As my race have found their planet a few millennia ago and started to uplift them, we thought them how to build massive monuments and advanced their sciences by a couple of centuries."
Ambassador Jenkins was stunned, not only does this alien claim to have started uplifting them but now that they managed to be a true space fairing race on their own and a member of the Galactic Union, he wants the to be their slaves essentially? These thoughts run through his had and after he recovers and started speaking.
" In the name of humanity I object. We made it into space on our own and we achieved true space fairing status whiteout your help"
The Balkian ambassador spoke again. "Humanity would still be in the dark ages if it weren't for us. You should thank us for the help we gave you.
Ambassador Jenkins was now visibly annoyed. " I don't care and neither does the Emperor. Humanity shall never be the slaves of anyone."
The speaker of the Senate interjected" Ambassador Rak'sa this is unheard of. Claiming the right of patronage is all well and good but to do so on another member of the Union?"
Ambassador Jenkins spoke again " The speaker is right this has to be illegal."
Ambassador Rak'sa then smugly said" I can assure you it is perfectly legal after all it doesn't say anywhere in the law that the uplifted species must not be a member of the Union"
The speaker noded"He is right, but still this is very unusual. If you have the documents backing you're claim than I suppose there will be no problems with you caliming your patronage."
Ambassador Jenkins bursted out angrily now. "YOU CAN'T BE SIRIUS. Even if he has the documents as a member of the Galactic Union we cannot accept his ludacris demands."
Ambassador Rak'sa said with a grin. "I'm afraid you will have to."
Ambassador Jenkins then said in a calmer tone." This is outrageous. But I will confront my government about this and see what they have to say about this, but I warn you their response won't be the one you want."
And that sparked the first Human-Belkian war
