Is there anything we can do about the housing market?

thats true. i am also from hawaii and hawaii has always been an expensive place to live but i know nobody in my age group(22-28) and younger that can afford to buy a home. their parents were able to buy homes and thats how they continue to live here. many people live in multi generational houses here but after i finish my degree in the next year i am going to have to leave hawaii because the average home price is $1.1 million. the rental market is also horrendous and the landlords are very strict(no pets, no guests over, single person only, a 3 bed house with only 3 people max allowed, no children, etc.) most of my friends have already left due to being squeezed out. it is also making me wonder what is going to happen in the next 10-15 years when virtually no locals are able to live here, like who is going to serve the people who can live here at restaurants or the grocery store? maybe i am overthinking it but it just feels really scary looking at the future of things right now.
