So, there I was. I had finally received a Diancie, which I had been trying to get my hands on for ages. I immediately take it to the Battle Resort to have its IVs checked so that I could begin to EV train it, to use it in online battles. I found out it had 5 perfect IVs, and it's greatest IVs were that of Attack, and Sp. Attack. I grab my power items, equip them to Diancie, and deposit every other Pokemon in my party into the PC besides Slurpuff, who has the move sweet scent for horde encountering, and Diancie, who happens to be level 100. So with that, I head over to route 119 so that I could EV train for Sp. Attack off some Oddish hordes, using sweet scent. I head into the patch of grass and hit my X button to bring down my menu. I click the Pokemon section, hover over slurpuff, and proceed to use sweet scent. It works, and a horde of oddish show up to battle Diancie. Just as I'm about to use Dazzling Gleam to shut down all of those oddish simultaneously, out of the corner of my eye, I notice there's a little green Oddish standing in the left hand corner of the horde. I think to myself, wait, what? Oddish are Purple, that one is green... Oh my god!! That's a shiny!! I'm stuck in shock just sitting there blown away, because I've played every single Pokemon game since the original Ruby and Sapphire, and I have never, Not even once, seen a Shiny Pokemon in the wild. I was so extremely happy that I had finally seen a Shiny Pokemon, that I didn't even care if it was an Oddish. I thought, ya know, I could catch this, train it, and evolve it into a beautiful Bellossom. I had so many plans already set out in my head for this little Oddish that had just appeared a minute ago. So I immediately cancel the dazzling gleam, and switch out into Slurpuff, who's only level 20 and should be able to hold off these Oddish and save the shiny one so that I could catch it. Like I had hoped, slurpuff outlasted the 4 other oddish and managed to keep that one shiny level 13 Oddish alive. But Slurpuff was struggling, and struggling bad. Slurpuff only had 3 health remaining, and was poisoned. So one more round, and either the Oddish, or the poison would knock out Slurpuff. So I go to my bag, and I check to see how many pokeballs I have, and what kind of ball they were. Come to find out, I only have 3 regular old pokeballs left. No great balls, ultra balls, etc. I begin to panic a bit, because if I attack the Oddish, it's going to die, and ruin my chance at catching my first shiny encounter ever, and I certainly wasn't sure if 3 pokeballs would be able to take care of the job at hand. I decide that I have to have faith that these pokeballs will work, so I go to my bag, click my pokeball, and chuck it at the Oddish. It rolls 2 times, and the Oddish breaks free. The poison on Slurpuff kills it, so I go and send in Diancie. Obviously I'm not going to attack with Diancie, nor do I want to run away and say forget it, so I throw another pokeball. It rolls only once this time, and Oddish breaks free. Oddish is giving its all at this point to make sure I don't take it home with me. So I get really nervous as its my last pokeball. I click my bag, click use last item used, and I throw that pokeball straight at Oddish will full hope that it's going to work, cause I'm trying not to doubt myself. It rolls once, rolls twice, rolls again, and at this point I'm thinking, I did it, Oddish is all mine, I have finally caught a shiny Pokemon, and then that little pesky Oddish finds a way to unlock the latch on that pokeball and set its self free right at the last second. I didn't even know what to say at this point. I lost to a level 13 shiny Oddish. Sure, I went on to kill the Oddish and walk out of the battle as the victor, but at the end of the night, I couldn't help but think that Oddish won. It ruined what I had been waiting for in Pokemon for so long. My first shiny and I had failed. I even went back to the same location and battled 5 more hordes with ultra balls this time. But no shiny Oddish showed up. It had truly won that battle and it knows it.
