I am pretty terrible at chess, but have quite a lot of experience with mental health. From the information I have read about Fischer it would seem he was obviously suffering from paranoia, probably exacerbated by the conditions he was placed and confronted with during his career. My opinion would be he had a personality disorder, which are most times co-morbid with other personality disorders and mental illness'.

Of course this is all just guess work, maybe he got help from a professional at some point and was diagnosed. From personal experience I've noticed a lot of mentally ill people that have high intelligence, most with a "schizo" disorder. Which there are many, amazing pattern recognition etc.

Sorry if this comes off as a bunch of bullshit...
