Your unusual take on popular tropes and cliches.

Had another take on some Whore Tropes.

For example, the majority of characters you encounter in my first book are sons and daughters of whores. Including my protagonist's best friend. And it's no big deal. In fact, you probably wouldn't realize they were whores until you took a step back and saw this culture's life cycle pattern. In this culture, trading sex for resources is completely normal, and something a lot of women take up during winter when their main source of income (field labor, berry picking, etc.) has dried up. So even though this leads to a rather odd family structure (most people recognize family based on common maternal relatives, not paternal ones), there's no angst about it.

My protagonist's best friend's mom was a Hooker with a Heart of Gold who was also a pretty clever witch, and a big name in the old Rogue's court. She adopted four foreign boys she found starving on the docks, not just because she was nice, but because she saw a lot of potential in them to be useful to her. She wasn't poor or desperate, she wasn't a drug addict or bitter, she was fairly well respected in her day, and she wasn't murdered. She died of smallpox when her daughter was six.

This is also a culture that has some pretty okay birth control (magic talismans that work so long as they're kept up-to-date), and they don't have a lot of STDs because they're a very isolated population that has almost no contact with the outside world (and people with STDs generally can't convince someone to have sex with them, even for money. And there are some that healers actually have the means to cure.)

So I guess I just decided that in this culture, being a whore isn't a bad thing. It's just another part-time job. It's a strong contrast to other cultures in my story where being a whore, or calling someone one, is a nuclear-level insult. Also a strong contrast to other societies in my story that have slaves who have no defense if their master wants to use them sexually or pimp them out, and are forever tarred with a black brush for having done so, through no choice of their own.
