At the same time, I have changed my opinion of the classics. I understand what a particular work has contributed to literature and the world, but I just don't like it. Now I already treat it like a new invention. For example, we know that Alexander Bell invented the telephone. No one disputes his contribution to the history of communication, but do we use the Bell telephone? No. Gradually we have moved to more convenient models, telephone numbers, a telephone dial, buttons, then the phone got rid of the wire, acquired a touch screen, and now we are quite able to choose both the type of phone and its brand, and no one will even think to choose the same phone Bell just because he was the first. He will choose the phone according to his goals and tastes. The same, it seems to me, can be applied to books. Just because an author has written something unique, doesn't mean it's the best in the genre and won't write something next that suits a particular person much more than that, a unique book. Literature is a subjective thing and that's the beauty of it. The same book can both like and irritate different people and classics are no exception. So that's what a little essay is all about.
