Wow, that story has a familiar ring to it from the 1980s. 15 years later I had a manager who insisted he be called if a system as much as burped. I would call and as usual he had a snoot full and became belligerent about not calling him. "Well I'm talking now." Is it fixed yet. "I just got the call". Call me back if anything happens. After a few of those I would call him every 20 minutes or so with an "update" until he said quit calling. In the morning he would remember none of it. Everybody knew he was boozing all day. After falling off the wagon about 6 times after HR mandated "recovery programs" he was forced into retirement. I heard he was hospitalized after running himself over with a snowblower. Died of a stroke at age 58.
