650 - Hammer Time feat. Brace Belden (8/1/22)

I think some of the fun of TrueAnon is exploring these weird little fringe scenes so the topic made sense to me even though it's basically irrelevant to anything. Zooming up bigger picture, I think it's interesting to talk about how an absence of any actual political movements that could change the status quo drives people to either dissociate from politics completely (the normal response) or else search from some sort of potential alternative to join to build a movement (the political response). And since all these people are some sort of Marxist, they have to believe that it is possible for people to get together and create a new world. So in this context, I took the rant to be much more along the lines of a warning- in the absence of any established left or clear understanding of what we can do, lots of crazy groups will arise for all sorts of self-serving and nefarious reasons with all manner of shady funding. This is all very disorienting, some of that is by design, some of it is because of the internet, some of that is just because people are weird. How do you keep yourself from falling in with stuff like this? You need to be moored to something so you don't get swept away off into the deeper currents. I think their flippancy is just typical of this sort of show, and they express this better when (instead of saying "be normal") they say stuff like anything worth doing will be done with other people, organize at your workplace, organize in your community, etc. People go down rabbit holes and it alters their perspective. Online brain is an example of this sure.
