85-year-old woman with macular degeneration charged in hit-and-run of cyclist. The cyclist, Brian Robinson, 46, remains in critical condition. The driver only stopped when forced off the road by two witnesses, one pulling a firearm to prevent her from fleeing.

Apparently his wife was also struck, although she was not grievously hurt.

SMFH. It seems like humans are just inherently self centered. I don't know how else I can accept the reality of an elderly woman knowingly refusing to give up her driving PRIVILEGES as you are LEGALLY OBLIGATED TO DO when she has been deemed medically unable to operate a motor vehicle (it's complete bullshit that ANY doctor would give a octogenarian grandma with macular degeneration the okay to keep driving, PERIOD).

She made a judgement call. She decided the the inconvenience of losing her feeling of independence was not worth the very real and potentially fatal risk she posed to every other person on road (not just bikes). She was wrong and there's no amount of apologizing, rationalizing, or "I can see much better during the day..."-hindsight that will change that. She should have never been in a car. She should have never been on the road.

Despite her inability to remember hitting Robinson, she knows she wasn't supposed to be on the God damn road and now somebody who has NOTHING, ZERO to do with her meaningless creature comforts might literally fucking die because they were that important to her.

Fuck her and fuck every person who knows they're not capable of operating a motor vehicle but keep doing it because they're unwilling to accept that they're not the center of the Universe and with individual privilege comes collective responsibility. I hope this guy pulls through, although even if he does, he'll never fully recover. I feel bad for him but I feel horrible for his wife.
