Daily Cyclist Thread - May 27, 2020

I have a long travel enduro MTB. It's currently my only bike, I use it almost exclusively for chunky rocky trail riding and downhill bike park. I want a second, lighter bike for longer smoother rides, and just to switch it up a bit. I'm trying to decide between a gravel/cx bike, or an xc/hardtail. I spent 15 years without a car as a daily bike commuter on all different kinds of road bikes, from carbon to steel, road, cross, fixed, ss cruiser, etc. I got hit 3 times in 3 months living in NYC and haven't ridden road since, but for some reason a gravel bike sounds appealing, as does possibly cat5-ing some cross races. OTOH, I live out west (currently near Taos, heading to MT/ID sometime in the summer) and am perfectly happy never riding on the road again with all the trails to ride. I've never had a hardtail, just lots of road/cx bikes and two full squish mtb's. I think I'm leaning towards a steel or carbon hardtail, but for some reason having a gravel/cx bike sounds nice too. thoughts?
