Acceptance/Denial/Waitlist Megathread

Academics: 3.7 cumulative, 3.6 overall. Major in Hearing & Speech Sciences with a minor in Spanish. No GRE; only applied to schools not requiring it. Have all 25 hours. 

Job Experience:

Newborn Hearing Screener at local hospital - in NICU and well baby. Engage patients in English and Spanish and translate for other healthcare providers.

Swim Instructor for 6 years, ages 2 - adult. Specialized in children and teens with disabilities and additional needs (ADD/ADHD, Down, autism, limb absence).

Research Experience: - 1 year working with adults with aphasia (evaluating and writing reports) and creating materials for bilingualism study. - 1.5+ yearsworking with adults on communication skills, evaluating child sentence comprehension, lots of human communication stuff.

SLP - Related Other Experience: - 50 hours shadowing SLPs over 13 schools in my county's school system, from EI/preschool to post high school. - 1 semester volunteering in my school's preschool for children with speech/language delays. Planned lessons, observed and assisted in therapy sessions. - 1 semester volunteering with a program run through my school for young adults with social skill difficulty (typically autism).

Other Experience: - NSSLHA Faculty Liaison (executive board): attend faculty meetings, disseminate relevant info to NSSLHA members, e-board, and undergrads. - Bilingual tutor: tutored Spanish/English ESL students over Zoom and worked with parents on skill retention. Volunteered with a program that matches you with struggling students (academically + homelessness. abuse, etc.) and engaged the kids in academic and therapy activities - Member and resident of language immersion program: live with other people learning a language (for me, Spanish) and speak it full time. - Facilitator for courses on leadership skills and personal identity - Chair for garden club - Volunteer in daycare supporting families of people with disabilities and low income families 

Other Things: - Bilingual (Spanish/English) - Hispanic - Weak GPA summer 2021/fall 2021: familial loss. - Considered PA school for a while so I have some PA school pre-reqs; considered audiology so I have some additional audiology classes.
