AFRICAN PARENTS ARE ABUSIVE

Thank you x. I talk to my mom about men now because I’m older but it was a taboo when I was younger. The virginity check happened when I was 15, but I believe we need to have these “uncomfortable” conversations to enlighten ourselves and others. I’m grateful for my mom still because she did everything to provide a better life for her kids and during therapy I realized she thought it was the right way to raise me. I saw her breakdown when she understood the severity of her “disciplines” on me. I don’t entirely blame her, it was how she was raised. It was a cycle and I’m happy to say it’s been broken because she’s a lot different to my younger siblings.
