Air quality takes center stage at first major Salt Lake City mayoral candidate debate

I worry about Garbett's connection to land development. Affordable housing may not be in the best interest of Garbett Homes.

The city government doesn't have as much control over air quality as it does building and zoning standards. We share the air with other municipalities, but development review is our own.

As a extreme hypothetical, what if Garbett put pressure on the Fire Department to ease adherence to national fire code? What if the Zoning department were suddenly encouraged to allow six unit condos with no parking right next to your single family home?

All of these a policies that could affect Garbett Home's bottom line and are in reach of the city government.

If we had zero emissions as a city, which would be great, we would still going to be breathing the rest of Salt Lake County's air.
