[Albert Fabrega] Sainz "Already in FP1 I lacked rhythm and confidence. Qualifying has been getting more complicated for me. I lacked a set of tires in Q3. Today I wasn't there to fight for pole position. Leclerc's pole position is very good for the team. Tomorrow there is another opportunity"

We’ll see. Perez was almost unbelievably off Max last year, and Sainz was barely off in comparison. You can say max =\= Leclerc as much as you want, but for example as a percentage of lap time in quali Perez was as far off Max as Latifi was off Albon. It was not that much better in race pace, where Perez was also way off in.

To me any eye test about “racecraft” is completely outweighed by being consistently and massively off the pace. He is not close to being wdc material, and to be completely fair neither is Sainz. It’s way too early in the year to say anything definitively, but at this point saying anything to the effect of Checo>Sainz is nothing but overreactions mixed with hot popular takes.
