Amazing Game Stats On PlayStation Alone! (Don’t Give Up BioWare!)

Disclaimer: I don't want to discredit Anthem in any way, but I feel like these numbers need to put in perspective before Champagne bottles are opened.

While a total player count of 2 million is certainly not bad the numbers that are actual interesting are monthly active users and new players. MAU is basically the definition of the current player base, the total player count is the amount of players who started the game at least once (and therefore not saying a lot except for sales numbers).

If we look at the MAU it is 170.000. (For reference the MAU for Destiny 2 at the beginning of 2019 was at around 6 million, source: https://www.pcgamesn.com/destiny-2/player-count).

The new players in the last month are at 110.000. This means the returning players are actually around 60.000 (MAU-New). Even if this is only Playstation, that is not a great number. Assuming PS, PC and Xbox would have roughly the same share we would sit at around 180.000 MAU overall. Pre-F2P Destiny 2 would still have a returning player count around 30 times larger than Anthem.

(No, this is not a "Destiny good, Anthem bad" comment. I just needed an example of a similar game to compare the player count).

Just my two cents on how to read statistics on player count :)
