Do any of you regret majoring in Geology?

I regret it every day. When I was a dumb ass college freshman deciding a major, I sold myself on the idea that geology would provide a break from the monotony of other careers and pay well. I didn't think after 6 years of school and all the hard work that I would be in this position and struggling as much as I am.

My colleagues from college who did computer science, engineering, or nursing, work significantly less hours and make significantly more. My friend who loved geology just as much as me and switched into computer science has the free time to hike and enjoy the outdoors and the money to go on amazing trips to see amazing geology while I scrape pennies trying to save up a rainy day fund and sample tanks from abandoned factories for 70 hours a week.

Everybody is different and enjoys different kind of work, and I don't want to generalize for everyone, but my advice is to pick a career that allows you to make as much income as possible while taking up as little of your personal time as possible. A geology major currently provides very limited opportunities for that.
