I’ve had NFL Sunday ticket for free 3 years in a row. It’s simple but takes a bit of work.

Step 1: Call customer service about canceling your DirecTV. Do not even ask about Sunday ticket. Advise them you are canceling because you don’t need them and that you use streaming services. YOU NEED TO ACTUALLY CANCEL. They will turn off your service at midnight that night.

Step 2: You will get a phone call that very next day around 10:30-11:30 (Arrowhead time) politely explain you were only keeping them around for sports and you can no longer justify the cost, and the only way you see yourself staying with them would be if your bill was lower and you had the Sunday ticket at no price. They want your business and will give you this every time.

Just be careful because Sunday Ticket will automatically renew for the next season.
