Honestly, I just don’t think enough smokers are aware of how awful cigarette butts are for the environment. I’m a smoker myself, and sooo many of the people I’ve smoked with were under the false impression that cigarette butts were made from cotton (which, in fairness, they used to be) and were biodegradable. Also, tossing/flicking butts is such a common thing in media that it’s kind of ingrained in people, I think.

Personally, I roll my own cigarettes and make sure to buy biodegradable filters, but even then I still make sure I hold onto my butts and toss them in the garbage. Even if they are biodegradable, they still look like shit if they’re littered all over the place.
