There are a few odd apartments and/or houses that are sometimes available for rent around Westerly Ave. and Summit St (down the street and about 5 min or less from the Research Park). I could actually put you in touch with the property management for one particular house (lower floor of a duplex) on Westerly Ave (4BD/2BA) that's very cheap and should be on the market in the next week or two I believe. I know the maintenance guy for that house and he mentioned they wanted strictly grad students, young professionals, or thereabouts (aka minimal partying and mess). PM me if you're interested.

As an addendum, I'll add that Cavalier Court Apartments on the corner of Maury and Stadium treated me pretty well. The amenities were very modest but they were pretty cheap (around $850 for 2BR/1BA), the location was great, and the management treated us pretty well. They used to strongly prefer grad students/young professionals. Granted this was 4 years ago and they're under "new management" so grain of salt and all.
