So much for Charlottesville being some kind of liberal haven.

We clearly have different views. If you aren't gay then you really don't know what my specific situation feels like. I would rather not find out when I'm officially employed, when I mention my wife in passing like other straight employees get to do, that they think I'm disgusting. I'd much rather dodge that bullet early on. Besides, you say sexual preference like I'm telling my employer right off the bat I like having sex with women. She is my partner with whom I plan to marry and have kids with. Just like when a straight woman tells me about her boyfriend, I'm not immediately thinking about her "sexual preferences." I acknowledge she has a significant other and move on. Your whole comment comes off as homophobic to me so I'd rather not continue this conversation. And if you claim that you aren't homophobic, then please try to empathize with those who are discriminated against for being something they have no control over. I fail to see the point in coming on here and telling us that what we did or feel is wrong. I'm certainly not going to comment negatively on the OPs post because I'm white. I have no idea what it feels like to be someone of color. I can only listen and acknowledge their feelings as valid.
