Ashes Of Creation MMORPG Developer Q&A

Well, my concern isn't merely with the 48 hours - it's the fact that it's also now closed. (I mean I'm sure they'll probably reopen something like it down the line, his funding goal is 30m according to this interview 5 days ago). The bigger eyebrow raise is.. that the game is not released, you needed hundreds to get into that jump start... and it's a subscription game.. with a cash shop and planned expansions.

Imagine starting any of the WoW expansions every time 1-2 days earlier. Getting the fancy server first kills and titles and all that (I ran a few HC guilds and was part of that whole 6 day a week raiding burnout for a while.. I still have my world first HWL hunter (or 2nd, hard to confirm, I know my friend was world first warrior with my hunter to follow the week after) and nobody gives a shit but it makes me feel pretty good about it since we didn't share accounts or anything and busted our balls..

I still have a ton of server first achieves/drakes/mounts and so on (again that nobody gives a shit about) but we had to push to beat the other guilds (often by minutes). If they had 2 days start every time because they paid 500 bucks, they get more recruits, we lose more recruits, they get more gear, we get less gear, it's an incredibly tight domino affect at the top levels. People in top 30 always want to be in top 20, in top 20 they go to top 10, etc. Sure you have your core but that only goes so far - and since this game is so heavily reliant on people working together against others with the node system - I can't possibly even imagine competing against Fury or SK Gaming recruits in today's world who can afford 500+ bucks for a kickstarter (present and future).

For as much as I don't enjoy WoW anymore, I cannot deny that at the absolute top levels, you need absolute perfection in terms of recruits (time, skill, dedication, and most important of all - motivation to be the best.. i.e. elitist.. well guess who often jumps ship first the moment you slip to #2 - quite often through no real fault of their own because recruiters from other guilds will poach your top talent the moment you hit a snag with offers you simply can't match).

Anyhow, I'm not sure which part of what I said you're disagreeing with - the never been done stuff sounds cool, that's why I'm following the game - are you referring to the fluff comment? By that I meant that at least Pillars had a concrete product to offer should they fail or should their game suck etc. but if AoC doesn't even launch, for 150, you get.. a hope.

I hope they succeed - I also hope it doesn't cost my guild members (assuming I'm playing the game) hundreds of bucks to get into their first expansion's beta.
