Ashes Of Creation MMORPG Developer Q&A

Yeah, I mean, with so many games out there, personally, I find it hard to be on the edge of my seat for any single one of them (except cyperpunk I guess but note how much marketing there is for that game - 0 - I love cdrp)

In either case, it's weird looking at his kickstarter page and him talking about expansions and introducing new races and lore and this and that if you hit certain stretch goals with 0 core.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I don't want to rewatch the whole documentary on Pillars development so I mean that), but I don't recall them mentioning anything about new expansions during their kickstarter goals.

Best I could find after reading through Wiki is -

"On October 8, 2012, it was announced that Wasteland 2 would be offered to backers who pledged US$165 (and above)."

and

"They also launched a poll asking backers whether or not they would support further fundraising."

So for 165 they offered something concrete, and with AoC for 150 you get to start a day earlier than everyone else.. pretty much as pay to win (against which he sounded very hostile) as you get in the MMO world.

What does that mean for the game's future - we can only speculate, but what if they do this with every expansion.. pay us extra and you get into closed realm and you get to grab your node a day or 2 (by 'you' I'm referring to a guild, since that's how these things always go) before anyone else leaving the rest in the dust. What if they do this with more than just the base game should really be a concern.

They claim one thing and have already done another - this isn't anything new and it's got red flags all over it... people already pledged over tens of thousands for lifetime subscriptions and invites to pre-alpha and 2 day head starts and guild name reservations and so on (all these no longer available).

That's a pretty big fucking deal in the MMO world. Let me go and reserve TeamLiquid or some other popular gaming guild, oops, I can't, but someone else can and get into the game 2 days earlier, grab a node, build a strong member base off false reputation, get ton of members once it goes live because people want to be part of the best guild/node asap and so on and so forth.

The fact that that is already implemented is not speculation and a real concern (for me).
