In the UK it is heavily frowned on to be an absentee employee most definitely. Most managers are present at the first line manager level (AD and Director) and most senior directors are in too. We have had a few town halls recently where people have asked about working from home and also even daring to ask the 4 day week questions. Needless to say this did not go down well with the senior leaders and people were told effectively to go and work somewhere else if they don't like it. I do actually agree with them on this to be honest. The culture is most definitely work hard, work smart, be collaborative, and that is one of the most rewarding aspects of it.
