Ballers adorable "proofs" that the oceans curve over the ball earth...

I'm trying to widen my view, but so far I have not seen any argument that is convincing. Also, I am in /r/theearthisflat, not in /r/thereisnogravity.

There is no need for gravity on the flat earth, its invented to justify the globe.

When water or a helium ballon go up, gravity is not suspended, it is simply overcome, just - as a means of model - like when you use a strong enough force to pull apart two magnets. The magnetism is still there. It becomes weaker with distance. Gravity is still there when a balloon, firework or ball goes up - for the time the object goes up gravity thus is not suspended, it is only weaker than the opposite force.

no, they rise because they are less dense than the medium they reside in, helium is less dense than the surrounding air, so it rises, water is more dense so it sits below it on the ground.

Sure, down is down. It helps humans to think inside their immediate spatial dimensions. For an ant on a big sphere, it might feel like it is walking on a plane.

not relevant here.

I'm not saying the gravitational theory is the ultimate explanation, but at least it offers a plausible model. Just saying "down is down" doesn't help understand anything, that's what I am trying to say.

Well im glad you are prepared to consider that gravity is not some fact that is beyond discussion for you, you dont have to agree with me and im not claiming to know everything, but there i no contradiction in what im saying.

why can't I see the Empire State building (or really any high elevation) from the summit of Mt. McKinley with the strongest of telescopes?

  1. our atmosphere is not invisible, there is only so far you can see through the air, there is all sorts of particles that obstruct view over distance, so unless your telescope can magically see through matter and dust particles and water vapor and whatever else is in the air between two distance points its a pretty moot point.

  2. and more importantly we are limited by how far we can see due to perspective, the higher you go the further you can see but there is still a vanishing where the horizon meets the earth.
