As a liberal, one thing I like about conservatives: they may strongly resist new civil rights, but once those rights are granted they eventually adapt and it becomes a non-issue except for a small minority.

Conservatives prefer traditional social values and this causes them to resist social change - this is understandable. Liberals prefer creating new social experiences and this causes them to look for social taboos to explore. The problem arises when this social taboo becomes regressive.

For example, welfare is regressive. It is a poverty trap that is difficult to get out of and all to inviting to sloths and those who have no desire to attain the American Dream.

The Welfare State should be replaced with the Employer State. The State should pay single parents to raise their children while encouraging and subsidizing plural parent house holds.

Of course, none of this can come to pass with a globalized economy. Trade between different economies should never be free. Deals need to be made. One party may come out with an advantage - but that is the cost of trade.
