A bit intimidated by the language barrier in Mexico (and the rest of Latin America). Any of you guys had problems?

Anyone else got some language barrier stories to share?

I once spent nearly two hours at the bus station attempting to purchase a ticket from Lhasa to Chengdu. A sweet and exceedingly patient Tibetan family attempted to help, despite them knowing about three words of English and I about two words of Tibetan. This is in the days before Google Translate and online bookings (and before the Han-settler railway had been completed). Managed to do it in the end and began the long journey - only to discover the earlier bus, which I'd missed as a result of language travails, overturned on the side of the highway.

Another notable language barrier story involved a most unexpected suggestion of a threesome from a very fun Mexican woman I was dating (I live in Mexico) and my absent mindedly confusing amiga and amigo. Thankfully her raised eyebrows alerted me to my error.
