Bitcoin: a force for change but it will die

The truth is that nobody knows what the future holds. There were those that said it was a bubble that would pop from when bitcoin made it to $1 each.

Here are my current thoughts: Nobody knows the true value of crypto, which is why there's such huge swings in speculation. If crypto becomes the new reserve where people globally store all their wealth in a deflationary (or stable) currency, then there's definitely room to grow. The difference is that you're not investing in stock, which is about sharing in the profits of a company (there are no profits being generated in that way). In BTC, we're betting on the value of 21,000,000 coins (subtracting those lost), when everyone who wants to store their wealth in it have done it. That's when we'll know how much each coin is worth. If there are only a handful of tech folk who want to store it there and they have the collective wealth of $104,000,000, then we'll settle on a final price of $5/BTC. If the wealth of the whole world wants to store it in BTC, well I haven't done the math yet, but it's going to take a while to get there.

We could end up with some storing it in BTC, and others storing wealth in another coin, in which case we split the total wealth in half. I don't personally believe BTC is the coin in the end, but that's my bias.

Lastly, there are a lot of coins out there which are basically trying to function as stock in a company. In those cases, you better see a profit making use-case, and the eventual profits need to add up to the current market cap to have strong fundamentals.
