What are examples of an individual in power giving up their power out of kindness?

I came here to bring a very similar example up and I hope there's still some visibility left.

There's a few folks familiar with Cincinnatus, which did as you said..gave up his power to return to farming. And you're right, Cincinnatus was named after him. So is something else.

The Society of the Cincinnati is the nations oldest patriotic organization. It was founded shortly after the revolutionary war. The problem wasn't Soldiers to fight..the problem was leaders to lead people. Under Washingtons lead, members of key leadership roles within the colonies were given leadership roles within the continental army to lead the strategic plans that helped the army win. It worked.

The problem came right afterward. Wars hurt and a huge problem was that these freshly minted generals were promised to be paid, after they won. The US had no money, not to pay a debt to officers commissioned jsut to lead a war. So, these folks wanted to do what a lot of others would want to do. Storm the lawn and demand payment for their services.

A reaonable person took charge and said...hey, we lead people. That's what we do. We lead us to victory, we're stronger and independent. Lets go home and build our cities. (rephrased, of course). So...they did. But soon thereafter, the society of the Cincinnati was formed. The gentlemen would get together and that was that. A neat club. Problem was, they started dying off, so rules came into place. You're allowed to have a DIRECT BLOOD descended, proved by the person, to sit IN THE SEAT of one of the original members. You can't just use google. It takes years of digging up birth, marriage, death, property rights, service records from you...to your mom/dad...to their dad etc back to the 1700s.

Source: My Uncle (fathers brother) is sitting on behalf of our last name. I've begun trying to track down the needed records, am deep into records, haven't even made it back to the bottom of the 1800s. The things found when searching family is incredible.
