Joe Rogan on Caitlyn Jenner

I don't know if this is going to get any traction, but I wanted to just post something from a trans perspective, since this is on the front page.

I am a trans man woman. I recently went to a big conference for trans health (actually, the biggest in the world) and the keynote speaker literally talked about how Caitlyn is not our hero because she is so utterly detached from what trans people really experience and the lives that we really live. To be blunt, most trans folks, especially people of color, don't give a fuck about Caitlyn and we understand that she's a piece of shit. She doesn't speak for me and she doesn't represent me; she was just the easiest way to introduce trans issues to America, apparently. I can communicate that opinion without also being insensitive and invalidating her gender, so Joe could have too-- this is the reason I can't really get behind the praise for this video. Calling her a "he" or "Bruce Jenner" when it's obvious that she prefers to be a referred to as a woman is lazy and low.

Also, if you're reading this and you have a burning rage towards trans people (which is sounds like some of you do) or if you just don't really get it or think it's weird... I just want to remind you that I am a person. You wouldn't know I was trans if you met me, honestly. I get that people say fucked up shit on the internet because you can, but I've heard people I considered friends say fucked up shit about trans people to my face because they don't know I'm trans, and it really sucks.

So, I know Caitlyn Jenner is a fuckup but the vast majority of trans people are just normal, decent people that realized at some point in their life that things would be a lot better if they transitioned. It has nothing to do with you, and it's not a weird fetish, and it's not a mental illness. I am just more comfortable and happy with a deeper voice, a flat chest, and masculine pronouns. I know that SJW politics get annoying sometimes, and I roll my eyes at them too, but that doesn't give you an excuse to talk to me or about me like I'm nothing or a monster. If you don't understand something, I encourage you to do some research or ask someone who gets it.

Someone you really like as a person might be trans and you have no idea; them revealing their trans status wouldn't suddenly make them into a freak. Just let that thought sit.

Doubt it
