Hey Bronies, thanks for helping me out with my research report! I'ts been very helpful. Here's what I wrote in my results and analysis. I have to also include a discussion of how the language correlates to social identity. I'll let you know how it all goes :)

The results of the qualitative research revealed a combination of words; some adhered to the rules of derivational morphology as outlined by Chapter 3 of Fromkin et.al. (2015), whilst others did not. Each word has been analysed to explore how it is lexically innovative. Most terms have been formed to suit an equine context. For example, the term ‘facehoof’ is the Brony community equivalent of ‘facepalm’. Like ‘facepalm’, ‘facehoof’ is a compounded word combining the two noun root words ‘face’ and ‘hoof’. Similarly, the term ‘hoofsteps’ is an equivalent of the compounded word ‘footsteps’. ‘Anypony’ and ‘everypony’ are also compounded words used to identify and address members of the Brony community. The term ‘Brony’ or ‘Bronies’ is an identifying word used to describe members of the community. Brony is a combination of two words; ‘brother’ and ‘pony’. The word has not been formed in the way compound words like “bittersweet” and “poorhouse” in Fromkin et.al. (2015). However, it follows Bauer’s (2008, p.198) description of clipping compounds; ‘kidvid', for example, is formed from the clipped words ‘kid’s’ and ‘video’. The word ‘Pegasister’ is formed in a similar fashion. ‘Pega’ is clipped from the word ‘Pegasus’ and used as a prefix for the root word ‘sister’. ‘Brohoof’ and ‘ponycon’ are formed in this way; the words ‘brother’ and ‘convention’ have been clipped and used as a prefix and suffix respectively. The term ‘derpy-hooves’ is interesting due to its multiple innovative characteristics. The root word ‘derp’ is an eponym which originates from the character Mr. Derp in South Park, and describes a foolish behaviour (“Derp”, 2015). The addition of the derivational morpheme -y results in the derived word ‘derpy’. ‘Derpy-hooves’ is a compounded word coined by Bronies to refer to a dopey expression; inspired by a technical glitch in an episode of the TV show My Little Pony which caused a character to go cross-eyed. ‘Why Wub Woo’ is a particularly interesting term as it does not conform to any of the rules of derivational morphology. Bronies coined the term after an episode of My Little Pony in which one of the characters presses her cheeks together and exclaims “So awesome!”. The resulting facial expression was dubbed the ‘why wub woo’ face, as it is how the phrase ‘I love you’ would sound if someone were to press their cheeks together whilst saying it. Existing words such as ‘plot’ and ‘clop’ have undergone semantic changes within the Brony community. Whilst ‘clop’ is an onomatopoeic word used to describe the sound of a horse hoof, its meaning has undergone a pejorative transformation within the Brony community. ‘Plot’ too has been semantically altered to describe the hindquarters of ponies in the TV show.
