I sort of had this debate with my brother: I called the spice girls a ‘girl band’ in conversation once. My brother said nah because they weren’t a band (they all sang). I said but NSYNC was a ‘boy band’ and they all sang. He said ok but girl bands just don’t exist. I then thought to myself why are TLC, Destiny’s Child and the Spice Girls not called ‘girl bands’ when NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys are called ‘boy bands’. Neither played instruments. Then I started to think well most ‘bands’ are all boys/men so does that make them a ‘boy band’.

Anyway, the answer I came to was that a ‘boy band’ is just a stupid marketing concept and doesn’t exist.

Therefore, calling The Beatles a boy band is degrading and hurts my brain. I’m not a boomer but I’m pretty anal lol.
