Bring on the electric truck stops: Megawatt standard for charging electric semis is formalized. MCS will be capable of delivering a maximum of 3.75 MW from a single plug and it will be “cyber-secure” and OSHA, FCC, and UL certified. It will offer bidirectional (V2X) charging capability.

Ah they old move the goalposts, how did I not see that coming. I don’t know what to tell you EVs have more towing capacity compared to similarly sized ICE vehicles. I’m sure somehow for you that isn’t right either.

The Tesla semi is expected to have about 500mi range so at 60mph, which would be super fast by semi averages, you would have a little over 8 hours of driving. The DOT rule is no more than 8 hours of driving and followed by a 1 hour break. No more than 14 hours a day. So you get a 1 hour break to charge and eat some food and take a shower. That will get you the rest of the distance.

This is just the beginning. If you don’t think trucking companies don’t see the opportunity of getting rid of one of their biggest expenses gas and one of the next diesel motor maintenance you should sit and think about. It’s like any big technological change, slow at first then all at once.
