This is false. There is no way every single review site in existence did as you claim. I recommend you avoid hyperbole like this in a rhetorical context.

But in any case, the moderate end of either side of GG were still caught up in a pointless debate that was merely a veil to the actual goal, bashing the other side. "Gamers are dead" is exactly the sort of bait I was talking about. No one says something like that unless they're looking for a rise out of someone. And the gamers took it hook line and sinker.

Gamer Gate is, from my perspective, a farce. It was supposedly about the sanctity of gaming journalism, something that hadn't ever been as 'pure' as the gamers insisted it ought to be. It was fueled by a couple of baiting extremists looking to cause controversy in order to gain attention for themselves, and it has crippled any real discussion of the place of progressivism in gaming bacause of a subset of gamers who now buy into the idea of "cultural Marxism" (which is a rehashed version of 'cultural bulshevism' a buzzword used by Nazis to attack progressives in 1930's Germany by implying they were communists bent on corrupting the culture of Germany with seditious ideas)
