BYOD: WIP for Windows devices

Windows Information Protection (WIP) is indeed no longer supported in its original form. However, it has been replaced by Microsoft Defender Information Protection (MDIP). MDIP provides similar data protection capabilities as WIP, including the ability to selectively wipe company data from devices when a user leaves the organization.

To use MDIP, you will need to have a Microsoft 365 E5 subscription or Microsoft 365 E5 Compliance license. Then, you can use the Microsoft 365 Compliance Center to create and manage MDIP policies.

Here are the steps to get started with MDIP:

Navigate to the Microsoft 365 Compliance Center (https://compliance.microsoft.com).

Click on "Policies" in the left menu, and then click on "Create policy".

Select "Information protection" as the policy type, and then choose "Microsoft Defender Information Protection" as the policy template.

Follow the prompts to configure your MDIP policy, including setting the conditions for when company data should be protected, and defining the actions to be taken when the policy is triggered (e.g., selective wipe).

Once you have finished configuring your policy, click "Save" to create the policy.

You can then assign the policy to users or groups of users as needed.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
