There are three kinds of basic attacks in RoK: Piercing, Slashing, and Bashing.

Slashing is the most basic attack, the attack you do when you left-click. When slashing, you openly swing the sword left or right in a broad stroke, allowing you to cover a large area. Although it does the least amount of damage out of any attack, It's best used when fighting multiple enemies up close or trying to hit your opponent on the left or right side of you.

Piercing is a straight forward stabbing attack you do by scrolling your mouse wheel forward (this is what it's normally set to). Piercing has a much smaller range than slashing but does a much higher rate of damage. Piercing is best used when an enemy is far away or just outside the range of normal attacks.

Bashing is the most powerful and slowest move in RoK. It is used by scrolling the mouse wheel down. When bashing, your player will lift whatever weapon he has above his head and bring it down onto other players. Like piercing, bashing has a very short range of attack; as well, the bashing animation takes the most amount of time compared to other attacks. However, bashing does the most damage and is often times a good finishing move.

And last but not least, there's blocking. Blocking can be done by right-clicking your mouse button. The block animation is automatic and lasts for about 3 seconds, meaning you must time your blocks carefully to counter the enemy attacks. If an attack is blocked, the player can immediately attack afterwards with no time delay, making blocking an effective defense when used correctly.

The best way to use all of these attacks is to practice with friends. Set down two or three stiff beds by the beach, and start PVP'ing each other to get the hang of the combat system. Once you get a feel for how each attack is used and when to block, you will become a much better fighter.
