Collision with swing bollard gates on Chester Valley Trail

So every Saturday I bike the CVT from Chesterbrook Parkway to Cedar Hollow Road. Today I had a collision with a swing gate bollard on the eastern side of the trail. Turns out while the western side (pictured) has a bollard gate right by the road the bollard on the other side is 400 feet from the road.

I bike the trail all the time but I was on the trail a little too early today (trail is supposed to be restricted 1/2 hour before sunrise and 1/2 hour after sunset). Even though I had a light on my bike the gate didn’t have much reflective tape and I hit it without realizing it was there.

Does anyone know the safety standards for these gates? Having them 100 yards from the intersection seems a little unhelpful to me. Obviously I will be much more careful with my bike safety, I’m just wondering how and why these bollard gates are used and if they could be implemented better.
