[Contest] Your Year Note: 2015 Edition

Hey /u/BeatTheCl0ck,

It's me, your older self. You're probably wondering how it's possible to receive a letter from the future, but don't worry about that. It's not important.

2015 will be a year of many highs and quite a few lows. In January (precisely on the 5th) you will receive a notice that your applications to study at your local university to become a System Analyst starting in March was accepted. It wasn't a fluke or anything. Your hard work studying at a technical school and recovering from trauma for the past two years has paid off. They really do want you there. Go ahead and do your happy dance, but don't forget to close your bedroom door so your flatmates don't see you.

Student Services will be crappy and difficult to work with at first. However, don't get discouraged because you'll still achieve a ~6.5GPA at the end of the year so make sure you focus and study hard.

You really should stop making the effort to visit family. They'll disapprove of nearly everything you do and due to past circumstances it's rather a toxic atmosphere. I know you're there because you still care for your younger siblings, but they've grown up and can take care of themselves. Your parents may still hold extreme views and conservative values, but no longer so extreme that it can destroy a life like they did to you so you really should stop and stay the fuck away.

The second semester of university during the last half of the year will be rather special. You'll finally have settled down in the routines of uni life. You'll join a really professional networking group and get some physical exercise playing Quidditch. Along the way you'll meet some great students and make lots of acquaintances and friends. Unfortunately, you won't achieve your 2015 New Year resolution to get a girlfriend, but you'll have quite a few male and female friends which is better than having no friends at all, save one, in 2014.

After finishing your first year in December you'll get drunk and dance a lot. A little bit of weed will be involved, but that stuff burns irritates your lungs so much with a lingering impact for days that, after a short while, you figure it's not really worth it. Some moments are cringe-worthy, but you'll have lots of good ones too that balance them out. Oh and you'll finally get the chance to celebrate Christmas with other people for the first time since you were two years old at the university with a few other students. It's really great and you'll love it.

However, you'll miss out on New Year Eve this year because you decided to relax a bit before the night of heavy drinking and parties and purchased a game on impulse not expecting to become so engrossed in it that you completely forgot and missed New Year Eve. There'll always be next year, and maybe you'll have a girlfriend by then to share it with. Who knows?

Love, /u/BeatTheCl0ck
