The coolest country name etymology: Pakistan

I am not saying you are not right, I am saying that whalers and cod fishers frim Western fringes of Europe were visiting the area for centuries, so it might be the Portuguese who first "officially" discovered iy, but if what you has found is true I very much doubt that a member of a crew (and in those times crews were composed by men from many different places) gave name to a neely "discoveted" pla ce noy bein the Captain or the person that was leading the expedition, but the name in Spanish comes from Latin, which coincide with Portuguese and Galician,. Like Australia (and not Shouthernland). Also the naming in the area is very confusing, because Labrador is said comes from portuguese Lavrador (posibly true) , but the form that finally has imposed is Spanish Labrador (with B).
