Again, this is just the way democracy works. Federally it's the electoral college but locally - for sheriffs - it's the popular vote. You have to deal with that result. You can't just go, I don't like the outcomes of elections so let's get rid of elections. You're taking the problem of sheriffs not being voted out and applying the bandage of let's stop allowing people to vote for them. I don't know what the answer is either but it definitely doesn't involve taking away voting rights.
