The US has a large military for lots of reasons. In part, so that we can enter into defense agreements with countries such as Australia. You are welcome.

In the US, lots of people can shoot and use arms who prefer not to serve professionally. This is called a militia. Legally, every citizen is a member.

From what you are saying, you feel no responsibility to help defend yourself or your neighbors in this way. This can only be because you are less free than you might be. Freedom and responsibility go hand run hand.

Hopefully the professional military will always be true to you and your country, and not those who command, pay, feed and train them. History does not offer much hope in this regard, however.

It wasn't all that long ago in your own country when a large part of the people were hunted as vermin, correct? Were the aboriginals armed with the finest weaponry when this was happening? I bet not. Tyrants never want their subjects to be armed.
