The Crossroads

“Husband?” Joffrey heard a voice from behind him as he wrote in his room. His retinue had arrived a few days earlier than the Tully and he’d made no plans in receiving him. The only plans Joffrey would make was planning to work. It was all he did, all he could ever do. He had no desire to meet and greet at feasts and court a lovely young woman. He knew his people and he had his young wife. Life, for him, was excellent. He needed for nothing…

“Wife.” Joffrey answered, voice bland and emotionless. He did not move at all other than his arm, writing multitudes of letters and copying each down by hand. Words scribbled across the paper with relative ease and Joffrey made his way through multiple papers before finally putting down his quill.

“What are you doing?”

“Working.”

“You busy?”

“Yes.”

“Really?”

“Of course.”

“You’re /always/ busy.”

“Of times, yes.” Joffrey answered and his eyes widened as he heard a grunt and felt his chair turn from under him. Alerie stood in front of him with a frown. Running her hands through his hair, Alerie climbed up in the chair with Joffrey and clutched to his shirt like a needy child.

“Stop being so busy.” She whined.

“Can’t. Have business to attend to, dear.” He said with a slight smile,” In fact-” he looked up and around frantically,” Lord Tully is here. I must make an appearance.”

“Can I come?”

“Of course. Get dressed and let’s go.” A few minutes later Joffrey was clad in a simple white doublet with pink accents. His finest clothes were prepared for this occasion, and it was important to make a good first impression on your liege lord. Being well dressed and well worded would certainly help in that regard. Alerie threw on a simple silk dress and pearls and took Joffrey’s arm as they walked down the stairs of the dirty establishment, looking to see the packed in.
