When did I discriminate or when did the church I attend do so? Read your linked article, read what Brian Tome says. Again, if someone tried to claim that they sinned (fill in the blank with anything the Bible says is sin) and say that it wasn’t sin they would no longer be in leadership. They are all welcome, all loved as we love our neighbor and love God who sent Jesus to die forALL. My point and it appears Brian’s from 2004 which I would take is still his position is today, which is in the article you linked, homosexuality is no different than other sin. The issue in the article is open sin in leadership that is the issue. Which that issue starts and ends in the 2000+ year old holy scripture that the Christian church follows.
moral high ground: Who’s on the higher moral ground? GOD and his scripture.
On hypocrisy: I don’t know what Brian or any pastor or leader does in private. I know what they say in public. Do you know what Brian does in private? God does so I will leave that to Brian and God. If Brian was to say that he is openly sinning, and justifying it, I would expect that he would do as he leads and step down.
On Golden Rule: I don’t know the private conversation Brian or Crossroads had in 2004 with this case. Based on conversations I have had in recent history my expectation is it would be authentic, based on the Bible and based in love. The love they have for that individual, the love God has for that person, and the love they have for the students that person was put in leadership of and teaching to.
On your theories: Again, if you want to really share something that you know that says specifically they would do otherwise, go ahead and maybe talk to them about it directly again as they would want to be treated as they talked to the person in the article directly and weren’t going to do otherwise.
Finally and I leave it with this for now: So, with all that, on homosexuality. What do you want me to do? What do you want the Church to do? And not just Crossroads but all Christian churches that say the Bible is God breathed and holds true from Genesis to Revelations. You want them/me to: Say the Bible is wrong here? Say to disregard it?
