Culture War Roundup for the Week of March 25, 2019

It is hard for me to imagine scenarios where most of the people I have known would ever get rich. This includes plenty of very intelligent and hard working people. The best most people can do is get a nice salary. Living below your means on a nice salary is a good financial life.

In my former life as a professional poker player, I knew a lot of people with entrepreneurial personalities. Every single time I would spend time with them the conversations would erupt with detailed critiques of businesses, or kernels of new business ideas. Verbally sketching out the business ideas was always a lot of fun. Every once in a while you'd think the idea could actually work. Without making any special effort, these people's natural personalities made them constantly on the lookout for opportunities.

Some of these people got rich. Poker players as a group have a lot of problems though, so the ratio wasn't great. The rare people I've known with this personality from the normal world have all done well, and half of them are rich.
