Culture War Roundup for the week of August 22, 2022

I think for the intelligent people in the room this war is much closer to something the west has to fight. Beyond some partisan games between parties American prestige and support of allies is at stake. So insiders will fund it as long as Ukraine is willing to fight.

A lot of people hate the American globohomo brand but relative to NOT being in the American umbrella and getting forced into authoritarian umbrellas it’s far prefereble.

The war is relatively low costs to the US. Europe realistically doesn’t have a choice on whether to fight though it’s far more expensive to them. Economically the war could even be a huge money maker for the US if they just took over as a big energy exporter and permemently removed any need for Russian energy.

For now the war has virtually no costs on the US. The US on net is energy sufficient. Some in the US will benefit like Texas and their economy and others get hurt from higher gas prices. But on net it’s fairly neutral. So the only real costs is the eventual need to replenish military supplies sent to Russia. With the benefit for the Pentagon of having a real war to improve their war planning on.
