Dave Grohl spots a drawn picture of himself in the crowd, gets the guy on-stage and signs it for him (03.06.2015 O2 World Hamburg) (x-post from /r/Foofighters)

I once got to meet my favourite DJ. I used to think sorta like you, maybe not as bluntly as you put it, but really, you can't really tell what kind of a rush of emotions meeting your favorite artist can give you until it happens.

It was Andy C, and for those who don't know he is well known in the drum n bass scene as the absolutely best DJ. He carries the momentum of a set way better than anyone else. He started his label more than 20 years ago when he was 16, and today it's one of the biggest in DNB. I regularly get high fives and smiles for wearing his labels shirt at events, and i have met and made friends with people thanks to it.

After his set was done I went to the meet&greet area and got lucky, and got the first place in line. There was a bench ready for the artists, and I thought of shaking his hand, getting my ticket signed and then be on my way, maybe get a photo too, but I didnt want to take away time from other people.

When he came, he walked straight up to me and hugged me and told me "I'm so glad you came out here tonight". It wasn't a halfassed hug either, he squeezed the hell out of me, and I was very sweaty and messy. I was absolutely shocked, and I walked out of the venue, and as I was walking home I just started crying. It came completely out of nowhere, it was so incredible to feel that something you really cared about for a long time and loved out of nowhere would suddenly go "I know how much this matters to you, and I really appreciate it".

Meeting your favorite artist, celebrity or whatever is more than just meeting that person, it's the whole representation of something you love. Can you imagine how many times this kid has listened to Everlong, whether it was during a sad or a happy moment, or just everyday doing his business?. He knows he's not the only one that has that love, but it's such a special moment to feel that love return to you, just you, appreciating you for being one of the people that made them so great.

Andy C is one of us, he's everyones boy and he loves drum n bass just like we all do, and he knows we love him and dnb. The reason to why fans meeting their favorite artist can look and seem so incredibly creepy to outsiders, is because it's not really two people meeting. It's because in that moment it doesnt matter that that person is a human being with flaws, he is something much more to the fan. He represents much more, he represents all those moments filled with emotion and really gives more meaning to your life talking back to you, and he knows it, and it makes him happy that he could cause something that big in another person. You have to understand the difference between this and being starstruck. I got starstruck once when I saw Andrew Garfield standing one meter away from me, and thought "Wow, it really is that guy", but there was nothing more to it. Meeting someone that means that much to you is completely different.

Sure, there are fans that take it to the next level and become obsessed, but in the end the important distinction is between what you do and what you feel. Don't do anything wrong, don't stalk anyone. But feeling? It's a fantastic moment, enjoy it as much as you can. Don't feel embarassed or creepy because you are being happy in that moment, just let those amazing emotions flow.
