David Bowie text posts

I've just watched this documentary from the extras of Serious Moonlight. It's remastered, but the quality's a bit fuzzy. I don't mind, I think it adds to the atmosphere.

Hong Kong:

  • David singing this 50's Chinese pop song asking if anybody knows it. It is called Me Gui by Miss Mao Lee. He first asks Coco in the back of a car. The conversation on the boat is hilarious.

  • A montage with 1983 Fashion in the background. Various Chinese models and clothes are shown as David's driven around.

  • The Hong Kong performance of China Girl. I'd already seen this one YouTube, but it's even better the second time. He smiles so much. After China Girl, there's Look Back In Anger.

  • Look Back In Anger merges with an airplane shot, onto Singapore.

Singapore:

  • He talks with a taxi driver about the strict government.

  • Sense of Doubt starts playing as he wanders around at night. He goes up and down several glowing blue escalators. The lights are so beautiful and blinding. Ends with him sitting on a bench,m with little white Christmas trees behind it.

  • He asks the driver if they can go somewhere "where there are no skyscrapers, not the modern part?" He comments on the fact that they're tearing a lot of buildings down.

  • He looks into an entrance where he hears music. Two women tell him it's opera rehearsals they're both in. He asks if he can watch, but their boss says no. He'll 'maybe' watch the show later.

  • While David's doing an interview, his band mates are joking around in the background. Many laughs and Garky toothpaste.

  • Interesting conversation about rebellious Chinese music.

  • That magical Heroes performance with shots of the Chinese Street Opera. Their makeup is so unique. It can also be seen here. It's revealed that he's in the audience of the opera.

Bangkok:

  • It's all eerie and dark and there's a lot of stray cats. So many cats.

  • The title song finally plays, Ricochet. It fits so well with this excellent montage. David being driven around, some live footage, lighting a cigarette and going in a strip club. Love this part!

  • Another Heroes song, Moss Garden. He's on a boat for some sort of spiritual cleansing. It's so calm.

  • He's led into another place where they're playing music, kneeling on the floor to listen. There's many xylophone-type instruments and a kid has an epic solo. David jokes with him making funny faces.

  • Laying on that long boat I've seen in pictures.

  • Ends with a funky performance of Fame.
