The deadliest starting 5 in NBA history

Love this discussion.

I feel the following team would be elite defensively, and be able to switch on any matchup without losing much on offense.

PG - 1995 Pippen - 1st team All NBA and All Defense, lead the league in steals, shot over 42% from 3. Facilitated the offensive and was essentially Point Forward / playmaker depiste not being a traditional PG. Perfect complimentary player.

SG - 1996 MJ - While less athletic and lesser stats than his younger years, he was still supremely athletic, he was much less reliant on it due to his greater basketball IQ, skill, and experience. Shot almost 43% from three. MVP season, 1st team All NBA and All Defense. Also went against the Monstars and won, thus giving us the true to life documentary Space Jam in '96.

SF - 1986 Bird - 3rd straight MVP Season, a hair shy of 50/40/90 (which he would get the next 2 seasons), first of three straight 3-point contest wins. Ultimate clutch shooter and trash talker, amazing help defender and team player, and one of the highest basketball IQs in the NBA.

PF - 2013 LeBron - 1 vote shy of unanimous MVP, 1st Team All Defense (2nd place DPOY), guarded all 5 possessions, athletic prime, learned to post up, shot over 40% from 3, NBA Champ.

C - 1971-72 Lew Alcindor / Kareem - #1 all time WS for regular season (25.4), MVP, NBA Champ, scoring champ, unstoppable shot, elite shot blocker, became Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Honorable mentions: C - 2000 Shaq, 1994 Hakeem, any year Bill Russell PF - 2003 Duncan SF - 2018 Durant SG - 1988-93 MJ PG - 2016-17 Curry

Durant was probably my most uncertain omission on my team; his length and athleticism as an off the ball defender are underrated, and his scoring/shooting is all-time elite. I went with Bird due to his better team play and passing, Pippen for this synergy with MJ and playmaking, and LeBron for a similar combination of reasons.

While there are better individual players than Pippen, his synergy with Jordan is unmatched and he actually shot well from 3 the season I listed. With them two plus LeBron, they could shut down so many backcourts and wing matchups. Bird as a help defender would be even more elite with them, and then having KAJ to protect the paint. Teams with smaller guards like Curry would get minimized with the length and size, and then be a liability on the other due to size. Pippen and LeBron can handle the ball and initiate the offense in lieu of a traditional PG. The team also wouldn't have any trouble scoring and would have no trouble in the half court or fast break.

The only weakness is the lack of truly elite shooters outside of Bird, but I think they'd make up for that with their defensive and general scoring prowess. They could also have some trouble with some larger front court teams, but I think they'd hold their own regardless.
